Stretching is stressful to your muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments. How do you know if your diet is sufficiently full of the necessary building blocks which contribute to elasticity, strength, and the overall functionality of your bodies' tissues? What do you need to recover from the constant wear and tear on the soft tissues that you also depend on for strength?

If you are a ballet/sports/fitness/cheer leading athlete, recreational or pro, understanding minerals in the diet will help you succeed.

Trace minerals like cobalt, selenium, magnesium, and zinc play a vital role in dozens of biochemical processes such as tissue growth, healthy metabolism, and proper water retention.

These minerals work in collaboration with other vitamins and phytonutrients (plant nutrients), increasing their absorption and boosting their effectiveness.

Unfortunately, mechanized farming and the use of poisonous pesticides and fertilizers has separated minerals from the soil. Therefore, plants no longer provide grazing animals or humans with the rich mineral content we need for optimum health.

Trace minerals are essential, and should be added to your supplements. A daily dose of MSM, green extracts such as spirulina, chlorella, barley or wheat grass juice, (there are many "super green" type of mixtures available), vitamin C, and trace minerals help you stretch effectively and recover rapidly.

Methylsulfonylmethane, or MSM, has many beneficial nutritional qualities. Among them, it makes the cell walls more permeable to nutrients, helps balance the PH of the body, shrinks pain-causing swelling in arthritis conditions or other inflammatory responses, aids the body in using insulin efficiently (affecting weight loss/gain), and all of this enhances muscle tone and soft tissue conditions. MSM acts as a powerful antioxidant and will de-toxify the body too.

The overall effect of MSM is related to prevent/relieve inflammation and reduce recovery time.

Vitamin C plays a key role in regenerating soft tissues. A full form of this vitamin is desirable, with bioflavinoids included. Ascorbic acid is the preservative part of the vitamin to the other parts, so it is not enough to supplement with ascorbic acid crystals. Several health food store brands provide a good Vitamin C.

The dark berry juices and extracts (acai, noni, pomegranate, blueberry, concord grape) also provide minerals, anti-oxidants, and co-factors needed for optimum health.

"Your body is your instrument", is an old cliche. Treat it like you would a priceless violin. It's not replaceable. Combine safe stretching and all natural nutrition, and you have a winning combination.
